Felony Assaults Jump in 112 Precinct

Assaults have seen triple-digit percentage increase since last year.

The 112 Precinct experienced a jump in felony assaults over the most recent week, according to COMPSTAT data from the NYPD.

The most recent week was less successful in area crime prevention, as police were called to four felony assaults between Jan. 16 and Jan. 22. The number over the same period in 2011 was zero.

In total, 11 major crimes were committed in the area, not a large number, but still a 37 percent increase over the same time period last year.

There were no burglaries and only one auto theft in the period, and grand larcenies — which have been the biggest problem in the area over the last 12 months, declined by 50 percent from the same period last year.

Overall in the last 28 days, larcenies were down just over six percent, and for the year so far they are down an impressive 42 percent, suggesting the precinct’s grand larceny countermeasures are having the desired effect.

Assault represents one of only two major crimes that have seen an increase this year, so far, with six committed in 2012 compared to just two during the same period in 2011.

The other crime of interest so far is auto thefts. After a concerted effort to curb grand larceny autos in 2011, the precinct has had five already this year, compared to just two during the same period last year.
