It says Around Town but the headline is UTAH. Utah is not near Natick!! I think everyone should notRead More open an article on Patch unless they see their town's name in the headline. So If it doesn't say Natick, then we all know it is not LOCAL to the Natick Patch. The less clicks these Patch sites get, the fewer advertisers they will get and then perhaps they will realize if we want sensational news from across the country we'd go back to Patch's former owners AOL and the HuffPost! Those here from other Patch sites - I think you should do the same only click on articles that mention your community's name. No name. No click!

Dons Wife & AR...I guess this will be an appropriate intermission break for me...LOL...IRead More Listened to Dons wife's song link and it is a beautiful song and I listened to AR's song link for the first time and I believe it deals with the inner self’s searching for meaning, but maybe I’m wrong and I’m sure I will hear it from AR …LOL. We know there is a place to debate anything under the sun .I tried to keep my views within current events and activities regarding the NYS Safe Act. I believe in God and also believe in reason and science. I’m providing a song link that shows another way of looking at the inner self and the meaning of life, but I know it’s not the only way….. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBVAoc5uzEM.......

I consider Suzanne a beautiful song of love and search for redemption. Extraordinary that such aRead More prolific author, poet, composer, performer could suffer from depression and work through, as one discovers in his works. I think the lyrics, like much of his writings, is layered with meaning, allows the reader to find his/her own personal hook. I love the Jesus references, to me more profoundly eloquent than anything I've read of him in bibles and elsewhere. Yet I interpret the passages a person's search for meaning to life and finding such in the present as opposed to a wishful afterlife. The "perfect body" reference strikes me as very Buddhist. In may of his works, the stories turn to love and the women who "cared" for him, often unselfishly, with a reoccurring comfort in sexuality. The depth has gone much further, in my view, as he aged, often rewriting. He's in his late 70s and still tours, sells out 20,000 seat arenas to an audience that spans at least six decades. I think his "The Partisan" is the consummate anti-war lyrics. Harrison also found comfort and meaning in Buddhism.

I just finished reading through that sleep study that you quoted in contemporary pediatrics. It wasRead More quite an interesting and enlightening article. However, it only supports your claims after you minimized the primary factors contributing to those sleep disorders; poor sleep behaviors, environmentals, etc. Eliminating/reducing of the hours of late night TV, computer use, cell phone use is their first and most important stimulant to curb. The electionic light exposure is the problem. Then secondly, comes caffeine based drinks; sodas, coffees, teas and pills. Yes, page three of the article does support your claims backed by studies but let's be real here. There are parents that don't even know their children are watching/creating porn on their (babysitting devices, a.k.a. ipads) instead of doing their homework in the first place! What you're clearly suggesting is beyond the mass majority due to a lack of their own span of attention/ mindless reality tv viewing/ slutty gossip magazine reading public. The family unit needs to be in order before you go and revamp the entire school district at great expense and inconvenience to all the working stiffs (working more than one job to make ends meet). When people start taking accountability for their own problems and still cannot yield the desired results, then bring up the study again over a cup of coffee. ;-)

This discussion should focus on finding what really works best to learn. Wake up call at 6 am forRead More high schoolers will change, as it's simply not required. Walking into a building for 6 hours a day to take classes in 40 minute intervals is absurd. Bombarding teens with data points on 6-8 different subjects per day needs review for efficacy. Immersive learning enables learning. Stay for an hour. Absorb. Question. Discuss. Apply. That's how many people learn best. This "speed dating" type structure has got to change.

Guess what, climate change is a better, more accurate term than the debunked global warmingRead More nonsense. It's occured thousands of times in the Earth's history. Both sides on this issue can agree on that, can't they? But, IMO humans didn't cause it directly, and cannot alter or stop it. The most critical negative human impact here is simple: too many people! Most of the Third World has NO access to birth control, and the vaunted UN doesn't seem to care. Even China relaxed it's stringent one-child-per-couple policy. Helping people limit their numbers might mitigate this problem. But I refuse to agree w/the Leftists Dems that we are some how to blame. Also, scientists who believe this theory make their paychecks off of scaring citizens, so they're incapable of being neutral.

@BP mom re: "For a super who's only been here a year, he's not making responsible, educatedRead More decisions if you ask me!" I assure you the Super's decisions are both reasonable and educated; they just don't agree with the Group Think of you and the other moms you talked to. You termed his decision yesterday a "very bad decision"; what were the actual results that proved "very bad"? There were none. ....................................................................................................... The Superintendent, in consultation with the Board of Education makes decisions about opening, closing, or delaying school in the face of inclement weather. They are authorized to do that. You, as a parent, make decisions about your own children. In my opinion, which does not count in this at all, is that your decision to keep your kids home was probably the worse of the two decisions made in reaction to yesterday's storm. But those are your kids and you are their mom. They missed a day of school but they stayed home safe and warm. I am sure you know that life is not all safe, and toasty warm; your kids will eventually learn that as well, just not yet.
BP mom February 16, 2014 at 09:37 pm
I wish I was such an analytical genius as you Christopher, thank you for dissecting my comments soRead More we can all have a clear picture. You can add some facts: at the time we were expected to drive our kids to school, because our district does NOT provide buses, snow was falling at a rate of 1" per 20 minutes with golf ball sized snowflakes, to quote the newsman on channel 12, and we could barely see across the street. Plus our street was nowhere to be found under the 8-10" of snow because the plows couldn't keep up. Doesn't sound very responsible and educated to me to expected children and staff to come out in that and our governor agrees as he declared a state of emergency. But again thank you for helping clarify my comment with your expertise as I'm sure you not only live and was present in blue point during the storm but you are a meteorologist also!
Christopher Wendt February 17, 2014 at 08:21 am
Yours was a personal decision for the safety of your own children. Many people across the state wereRead More confronted with that decision this month. Some, like yourself, opted to keep their kids home. Others sent or brought their kids to school, some came later, etc. Those districts that opted not to close were roundly criticized by those parents who kept their kids home, which is understandable. Many parents who took their kids to school also criticized the decision makers. Such is the nature of these things. As Governor Cuomo said to Mayor De Blasio who was being blasted for keeping The City schools open, "That's life. Welcome the The Job!"

The town plowed the other side of my street about 18 inches from the curb. My side of the streetRead More they plowed about 3 feet from the curb. In front of several houses, mine included, they plowed about 6.5 to 7 feet from the curb. Both of my cars, and a few others belonging to my neighbors, (although to be fair not everyone), were parked in the driveway, specifically to help with the snow removal efforts. Not only did the drivers remove less snow from the street area directly in front of our houses than every other house, but the plows also dropped off the blocks of ice it had accumulated from every other area they had plowed on the street. I can understand if the plows came directly down the center of the road in order to provide safe passage, but that simply was not the case. I ended up removing “the now blocks of ice” in front of my house, manual no machine, so that my wife can park her car legally and navigate safely into the driveway and inside the house. To add insult to injury, a sander just came down my block. Morons! How about removing the snow first then spreading the sand? You can’t fix stupid!

Perhaps I sound complacent. Trust me I'm not. I'm being realistic.
