City Seeking Lifeguards for the Summer

Lifeguards can earn up to $650 per week.

Want to think some warm thoughts during this cold spell? Maybe try your luck at becoming a lifeguard.

The city's Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking summer employees for its Municipal Lifeguard Training Program.

Those interested in applying must be at least 16 years of age, have eyesight no worst than 20/30 in one eye and 20/40 in the other and be able to swim 50 yards in 35 seconds.

The city is seeking lifeguards for its eight beaches and 55 outdoor pools.

Training for the program is free. If hired, lifeguards work 48 hours per week and earn $13.57 an hour for a weekly salary of $650.

The city's beaches and pools are open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
