Top 15 Finish For Forest Hills Bowlers At City Finals

Rangers' Dylan Bustillo and William Brown impress at PSAL Championships.

Twobowlers placed in the top 15 in the PSAL championships Thursday evening at Maples Lanes in Brooklyn.

Out of a field of 49 competitors, senior Dylan Bustillo, who anchored the Rangers all season long, came in fifth with a strong 678 score, while sophomore William Brown finished in thirteenth place with 609 on the night.

Head coach Ira Wolin couldn't say enough positive things about his two star kingpins.

"I'm really proud of them," Wolin said. "This is Dylan's first shot at the individuals, and he really did a great job at taking advantage of it. He did a tremendous job. He was solid all year long. He did great for us, and he did a great job for himself."

Wolin was just as high on Brown, who he said had a bright future ahead.

"He's a sophomore, and he cracked the top 15 as a sophomore in the entire city. They're good kids, good students, good bowlers. They are the whole package."

Bustillo, who hopes to attend St. John's University next fall, opened up with a 217. In his second game, he posted an impressive 269, a tie for highest game at the championships with first place winner Gary Pacheco of , who bowled an outstanding 714. Pacheco and Bustillo had squared off just two nights earlier in a playoff match at Jib Lanes.

Bustillo closed out his night with a 192, and was pleased with his performance.

"I am happy [with my score]. It was more than I expected. I finished fifth," Bustillo said. "I lost to pretty good competitors, so I'm not mad at all. It was a really fun season."

Brown bowled 204 in his first game. He followed that up with a solid 215, then capped his evening with a 192, good enough for a Public Schools Athletic League award — which were donated by Maple Lanes owner John LaSpina — given to all participants who placed in the top 15 in the city.
