The Mets: Deadline Buyers or Sellers?

What should the surprising Metropolitans do at the trade deadline this year?

There's no denying that the Mets have had a surprising season this year. Months ago, it would have seemed daffy to predict success for a team that's had as much off-season trouble as the squad from Queens.

But this is an odd year for baseball. It's the first season in which not one, but two teams will get a chance to be each league's Wild Card entrant into the playoffs. As a result, with the trade deadline less than two weeks away, many teams that would otherwise be considered out of contention are keeping their trade chips pretty close to the vest.

An enterprising general manager could certainly make himself a windfall of young talent this July if he was willing to part with some hot hands.
