Forest Hills High School Girls Basketball Tops Thomas Edison, 53-40

Rangers come roaring back from break with victory at home.

After a hotly contested first quarter, the Forest Hills High School girls basketball team pulled away from their opponents from Thomas Edison High to finish the game 53-40.

Backed by some strong individual performances, the Rangers (7-1) were able to put the finishing touches on a strong start to the second half of the basketball season. With the victory, Forest Hills has a stranglehold on second place in the division.

Hero: Forest Hills point guard Jodi-Ann Humphrey had a huge second half, coming up with a series of impressive uncontested lay-ups off of picks, fast breaks and more. In addition to running the offense, Humphrey's performance helped her team to a big win.

Quotable: "They're a great team," head coach Michelle Davis said. "Our defense helped ... my girls just made their shots and they stepped up."

Davis also said that switching to a box-and-one defense to shut down Thomas Edison forward Alexi Bowe Domenech, who was a one-woman wrecking crew in the first half, contributed to the victory.

Bottom Line: Despite some close calls in the first and third quarters, the Rangers were able to impose their will on the Inventors, who were still shaking off the dust from a long holiday break.

Who's Next? Forest Hills visits John Adams High School on Thursday, Jan. 6.
