Forest Hills High School Girls Basketball Beats Campus Magnet, 44-29.

Full-court press, sharpshooters guide Rangers to strong road victory in PSAL game.

The team dismantled Campus Magnet High School on the road, 44-29. After a strong first quarter, the Rangers relaxed on offense and allowed the game to settle into it's own flow.

While there were some missed opportunities — particularly in a very low-scoring second quarter — Forest Hills played well enough to take home a victory and secure their position among the top teams in the division this year.

Hero: Junior Sharon Rios lit up the scoreboard Monday night, hitting multiple shots from behind the three-point line and taking on the lion's share of the Rangers scoring in their dominant victory. She finished with 18 points on the night.

Turning Point: With the Rangers up 8-2 with 3:10 left in the first quarter, Rios buried a long jump shot to extend the lead. Two possessions later, Rios had the opportunity to take the same shot again, but backed up behind the three-point line and buried a wide-open three to stretch the lead to 11 points. The Rangers never looked back, and the girls from Campus Magnet never got closer than single-digits for the rest of the night.

Quotable: "Today, I must say, we did pass a lot better than we usually do," head coach Michelle Davis said. "My point guard played very good today, she's not being selfish anymore."

Davis did say that she felt her team's defense — which was so stingy it only allowed 11 first-half points — could have performed even better.

Bottom Line: The Rangers out-shot and out-stole the Bulldogs, employing a crushing full-court press starting in the first quarter that Campus Magnet never managed to find a way around. Despite some mistakes on the part of Forest Hills, the outcome was never really in doubt.

Who's Next? Forest Hills will take on Springfield Gardens at home on Dec. 13 at 4:30 p.m.
