Forest Hills High School Boys Basketball Falls To Campus Magnet, 66-64

Bulldogs need overtime to beat the Rangers on the road.

After leading for all but one minute of regulation, the Forest Hills High School boys basketball teak lost to Campus Magnet in overtime, 66-64 Thursday night.

In a game of streaks, the Bulldogs caught fire at just the right time, and took advantage of some key mistakes by Forest Hills late in regulation to turn an almost sure loss into an upset victory in the lion's den.

The game resembled a horse race, with the Rangers sprinting ahead and then slowing down, allowing the Bulldogs to keep pace. Several times over the course of the game, the Rangers would take a big lead only to leave the door open a crack.

Eventually, Forest Hills' inability to slam that door shut caught up with them, as Campus Magnet overcame their biggest deficit of the game with a 7-0 run that brought them within two points.

Hero: Campus Magnet forward Jordan Parks, with his team down by two, fired off a long three point shot — something he hasn't done all season — and buried it while absorbing a foul. The four point play, in addition to a solid performance all game, lifted his team to a lead for the first time all night.

Turning Point: With the Rangers leading by three and the home crowd screaming, Parks' long-distance jumper followed by the converted foul shot gave Campus Magnet all the momentum late in the game. While Forest Hills tied the game on Nick Padgett's clutch foul shots, all the air had been let out of the Rangers.

Quotable: "We had some bad possessions down the stretch of regulations, and a bad foul on a non-three point shooter," head coach Ben Chobhaphand, who was visibly shaken by the loss, said after the game. "We just had some bad decision-making. We'll learn from it. We'll learn from it."

Bottom Line: In a streaky game, the Bulldogs stole the mojo at just the right time. Down mid-way through the 4th quarter by nine points, Campus Magnet didn't let the home crowd — which was so rowdy that several fans had to be ejected — break their concentration.
