FHHS Wrestling Takes Out Information Technology High, 54-24

The Forest Hills High School Boys wrestling team took home a big win following a long layoff Friday night, defeating Information Technology High School 54-24 on the road.

The victory was a big one for the Rangers, assuring them of a strong record going into the playoffs with the possibility of a high seeding.

Hero: At the midway point of the match, the Rangers had what appeared to be a comfortable 33-18 lead after three forfeits by Tech. Their opponents were hardly down for the count, however, with a pending forfeit by Forest Hills upcoming on the docket.

Ranger Leo Kaestner went into a tough match against Tech’s Rafael Lanigan. Despite multiple pin opportunities, Kaestner fought his way to a 9-8 points victory in the match, ensuring Forest Hills had enough breathing room for the win.

Turning Point: After Kaestner’s squeaker of a victory, Ranger Elan Muladzhanov took to the mat and brought home a devastatingly quick pin just seconds into his first round. The pin charged up the Rangers and allowed them to sweep their remaining match-ups with pins all around.

Quotable: “Today was a my kids getting the cobwebs out. … We really only had one practice over break. This was a good match for them to get the rust out and get back on the mat,” head coach Stephen Serio said.

The Rangers only had the opportunity to practice once over the holiday because of the snow, so a win meant a lot for the squad, he added.

“I was happy with how things went today, they’re a real tough team.”

Bottom Line: With Tech missing wrestlers and the Rangers working overtime to win closes matches, Forest Hills was bound to take home the victory Friday night.

Who’s Next? Forest Hills will take on Bronx Science High School on Wednesday, Jan.  12 at home.
