FHHS Girls Basketball Upset In Playoffs By Erasmus, 60-58

Rangers suffer let down game in first round.

Forest Hills girls basketball team was bounced from the first round of the girls city playoffs on Thursday night 60-58, a stunning upset at the hands of 19-ranked Erasmus High school.

The upset was almost too much to take for the Rangers, who had spent much of the season blowing past the competition.

Hero: Jodi-Ann Humphrey led a valiant effort against the Dutchwomen, scoring 17 total points including a three-pointer, but the total wasn’t enough to lift the Rangers.

Turning Point: The Dutchwomen of Erasmus seemed to be playing a different game in the fourth quarter.

After jumping out ahead 37-24 at the half, the Rangers took it easy on offense and defense, letting the Dutchwomen back into the game by outscoring their opponents 15-9 in the third. Once the fourth frame came around, Erasmus kicked it into high gear, scoring 21 points to the Rangers 12.

Bottom Line: After putting up a strong early lead against a lower-ranked opponent, the Rangers let down their guard, and let Erasmus back into the game. Once that door was opened, it was hard for Forest Hills to clamp down on defense again, and the girls suffered a stinging first round exit.

Key Stat: During the entire game, the Rangers didn’t score a single point off the bench. While Erasmus was able to stay fresh and keep the scoring coming in the second half, all of Forest Hills scoring was done by the starters.
