FHHS Girls Basketball Defeats Campus Magnet, 48-30
Strong second-half defense helps Rangers take home road win.
In their last home game of the season, the Forest Hills High School girls basketball team beat out an unexpectedly tough opponent in Campus Magnet Tuesday night, 48-30.
The Rangers started off the game expecting an easy win, but Campus Magnet’s Bulldogs let them know that they weren’t going to go down without a fight. The two teams went almost point-for-point in the first two quarters, until Forest Hills managed to find the hole in Campus Magnet’s defense, opening up the third quarter for heavy scoring — at least for the Rangers.
Hero: The star of the game was point guard Pareese Hankerson, with 18 of the team’s 48 points and two assists. Hankerson was a powerhouse, along with Jodi-Ann Humphrey and Imani Frances, driving the ball and keeping the pressure on.

Hankerson’s game ended in the fourth quarter after a head on collision with another player, but by then she had already put significant distance between the two teams’ scores.
Turning Point: The final buzzer of the second quarter left the Rangers in an uncomfortable place — tied to Campus Magnet 20-20. After the break, however, the Rangers came out strong, scoring 18 points to Campus Magnet’s one in the third quarter. The Rangers stifling defense woke up during the third quarter.

Key Stat: The Bulldogs only scored one point in the entire third quarter, thanks to a strong Forest Hills defense and a heavy press.
Quotable: “We underestimated them, you know, they came to play,” said Forest Hills head coach Michelle Davis. “They got a lot better since last time we played them.”
Bottom Line: Forest Hills started out slow, but they proved to the crowd why they were second place in the standings with a strong showing after the half.
