Photo of the Day: Forest Hills HS Students Win Photo Contest

Students among winners in Astoria Federal Savings contest.

Two high school students from the community were among the winners of Astoria Federal Savings Bank’s ninth annual teen photo contest.

Mueed Mohsin and Fiona Cece, both of whom attend Forest Hills High School, were among the winner’s of the bank’s competition, which asks students between the ages of 13 and 19 years to express their creativity by taking pictures of the world around them.

This year’s theme was “Culture and Traditions,” which called for participants to take distinctive shots that visually represent the people in their lives and the customs that help make them who they are.

A total 600 photographs were submitted by students from 54 schools in Queens and Brooklyn as well as Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester Counties.

Mohsin and Cece were the only winners from Queens, while Selena Calixto, of Franklin D. Roosevelt High School, was the only student picked from Brooklyn.

The 13 winning photographers were recognized during an awards ceremony at Astoria Federal Savings’ headquarters in Lake Success. Each winner received a $250 cash prize, while their school was given $100 to be used toward their art departments.
