Patch Asks: Do You Support Housing Additional Students At Metro Campus?

The Family Council weighs in on the Maspeth High School incubation at Metropolitan Educational Campus.

Recently, we learned that the Metropolitan Educational Campus in Forest Hillsfor one year while the new school is under construction.

As the Metro campus was created to ease crowding in District 28, the Forest Hills Family Council wants to know if you are concerned about this extending beyond one year if construction isn't completed on time, what this means for the school's already overextended resources and if you feel this is the right move for neighborhood, neighbors and children.

I don't know much about the current situation at Metro High School but it seems like the right thing to do.  Children in other communities need access to an education as much as those in Forest Hills.  Nowadays, there are students traveling all over the city to attend high schools which are probably way more overcrowded than Metro High.  If it lasts more than a year, so be it.  — Betty Chen.

So many of my friends are public school teachers, and a lot of them use their own money to buy supplies and things for their classrooms. What will happen when their classes almost double in size?  Realistically, the construction will be going on longer than a year, as practically nothing in this city gets fixed on time. A freshman high school class is incredibly impressionable and most of them will be anxious about going into high school as it is. I'm afraid the students will suffer from the added pressure and overcrowding. — Jessa Stenson
