Local Leaders Want Forest Hills Parents At Next CEC 28 Meeting

Koslowitz, Hevesi fighting to get Forest Hills students in new local schools.

Two local leaders are encouraging parents from across Forest Hills to attend the next meeting of Educational District 28's Community Education Council.

Councilwoman D-Forest Hills, and Assemblyman , D-Forest Hills, are encouraging parents to attend the meeting to try and boost local students attendance numbers at the completed this summer.

Koslowitz and Hevesi have both been on message about the schools this fall, and the fact that the schools were locally zoned to give preference to Forest Hills students.

"Unfortunately, more people from Glendale registered, and they have a lot of them," Koslowitz said at a recent community board meeting. "More students from Glendale are going there now. I told the department of education that we are very unhappy that we don't have enough people from Forest Hills."

Koslowitz said that she urged the department of education to attempt to even out the student base at theby admitting more Forest Hills students in the next round of school selections.

"We want them, for the next round, come September, to favor Forest Hills so that it evens itself out," she said. "Because there are 250 kids that they took into this school, it was supposed to be 125 from Glendale and 125 from Forest Hills, and it's not that way."

Hevesi and Koslowitz are hoping that more Forest Hills parents will attend the meeting — which will cover the high school application process and deadlines — to learn about a nearby educational option that they may not have been aware of.

The meeting will take place on Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. at 90-27 Sutphin Blvd., in Jamaica.
