Halsey Junior High to Take on Rachel's Challenge
Program, starting Monday, hopes to start a "chain reaction of kindness."
On Monday evening, parents, students and teachers at Stephen A. Halsey Jr. High School will participate in a nationwide program known as “Rachel’s Challenge,” as part of Respect for All Week.
The program is based on the life of Rachel Scott, a student who was killed during the Columbine shootings in 1999. It is designed to give students a positive role model for their behavior toward other students and members of the school family.
“This program is known worldwide and has been recognized by the last three Presidents,” said Virginia Dente, parent coordinator at the school. “We would love for the Forest Hills community to know that Halsey is doing great things and they are invited to be a part of it.”

Students will be invited to join the Friends of Rachel Club, pledge to treat other students with kindness and respect, and join monthly meetings.
Parents are also invited to participate.

While the program is designed for junior high school students, elementary school students may find some portion of the program too intense.
The event will take place at Stephen A. Halsey Junior High School, 63-55 102nd St., at 7 p.m.
