Forest Hills' Kweller Prep to Offer Summer Camp Program

Camp will include assistance on everything from high school entrance exams to preparation in specific subjects.

A Forest Hills test prep site is offering a summer camp in July for local students to get ready for entrance exams to the city’s top public high schools as well as colleges.

Kweller Prep, located at 104-40 Queens Blvd., Suite 1F in the Parker Towers, will host two versions of the camp – one that runs from July 1 to 26 and another from July 1 to Aug. 23.

The program is meant for students between the ages of 12 and 17 years.

“It’s to help students who want to get into the top public high schools, such as Stuyvesant or Hunter High School, and have to take the entrance exam,” said Frances Kweller, the prep program’s founder, of the summer camp. “We’re a one-stop shop. We help with college applications and SATs. The program is specifically designed to build core reading, writing and math skills.”

Kweller Prep, which has been in the community for a decade, assists youths with a number of subjects, including English writing and math, and prepares them for a variety of tests, such as the English Language Arts (ELA), math state exams, TerraNova test, high school entrance exams and the Baccalaureate test.

“We have an ELA test prep that is completely aligned with the new core curriculum for math,” Kweller said. “Even the public schools were not as well aligned.”

Tuition varies per student, based on the type of instruction they receive and the amount of time in which they participate in the camp.

During camp season, Kweller Prep offers morning and afternoon shifts with eight students per group. There are still slots available for this summer’s program.

“We literally get everything done in one location,” Kweller said. “We register students for SATs and help parents with financial aid forms. We help kids with scholarships. And we have a really loyal following.”
