How to Read a Poem and Fall in Love with Poetry

Have you ever been moved by a beautiful quotation from a poem, yet you feel you ‘don’t understand’ poetry?  In his bestselling book, Edward Hirsch explains how poems work.  He invites readers to open their imaginations to poetry and discover for themselves how poetry can deepen our capacity for experiencing ourselves and the world. A critically acclaimed poet and an inspired teacher, Mr. Hirsch will read from his own and other Jewish poetry, with a running commentary on the poems.  Mr. Hirsch’s aim has been to make poetry accessible, yet no less magical, intimate, and even disturbing.  One critic wrote, “Edward Hirsch's book may very well inspire readers to catch the next flight for Houston and sign up for any and all of his courses.”  Yet you won’t need to take a plane to come hear Edward Hirsch open poetry for you!

This event is funded in part by Poets & Writers, Inc. with funds received  from the New York State Council on the Arts.
