FREE SPEECH & THE CONSTITUTION

Revered as perhaps the most important of our individual rights, freedom of speech has nonetheless been one of the most debated issues in our society.  When are government restrictions necessary for public safety and when are they an infringement?   We’ll consider key documents: First Amendment & Supreme Court decisions.  A detective in the New York City Police Dept., James Coll is also Adjunct Professor of History at Nassau Community College.  Advance registration advised.  Space is limited.

This program, which is free and open to the public, is made possible through the support of the New York Council for the Humanities’ Conversations in the Humanities program.
