What's Closed? Some City Services Shut Down For Holiday

Libraries, schools closed while subways and buses still run.

Many city services and community centers will be shut down on Thanksgiving Day in observance of the national holiday. We've put together a list for you of what's closed so you don't run out for something only to find a set of locked doors.

Schools: Closed. Reopen on Monday.

: Running on a Sunday schedule. Limited service in some areas. During the lead-up to the Thanksgiving Day Parade, trains into the parade area will be increased.

: Open.

: The LIRR will be adding cars to some eastbound trains for those visiting family on Long Island, and to some westbound trains for those travelling into the city for the parade. Thirteen extra trains will leave the city travelling east between 11:33 a.m. and 2:03 p.m. once the parade has finished.

: Many stores will be closed or have limited hours on Austin Street, Metropolitan Avenue and Queens Boulevard. Nearby, the Queens Center Mall will reopen at 12 a.m. for an all-day Black Friday sale.
