Weiner To Seek Treatment

Spokeswoman says Weiner will request leave of absence from House.

U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner will be entering a treatment facility and seeking a leave of absence from the House of Representatives, his spokeswoman confirmed to Forest Hills Patch Saturday afternoon.

“Congressman Weiner departed this morning to seek professional treatment to focus on becoming a better husband and healthier person,” said Weiner spokeswoman Risa Heller, in a statement. “In light of that, he will request a short leave of absence from the House of Representatives so that he can get evaluated and map out a course of treatment to make himself well.”

The statement is a reversal for the Congressman, who said on Monday that he did not plan to take any time away from his job.

Weiner, despite the calls of many of his fellow Congressional leaders to resign, said he has no plans to step down.

“Congressman Weiner takes the views of his colleagues very seriously and has determined that he needs this time to get healthy and make the best decision possible for himself, his family and his constituents,” Heller said.
