Weiner Submits Resignation Letter

Tenure ends as of Midnight on Tuesday.

By Midnight on Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner will no longer be the Representative for New York’s Ninth District, according to reports.

In a letter addressed to Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York Secretary of State Cesar Perales, Weiner officially resigned, effective at Midnight on Tuesday.

“I hereby resign as the member of the House of Representatives for New York’s Ninth Congressional District effective at Midnight, June 21,  2011,” Weiner wrote. “It has been an honor to serve the people of Queens and Brooklyn.”

The letter was also sent to Speaker of the House John Boehner, R-Ohio, and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-California.

While he has already called for a special election in other New York Congressional districts this year, there has been speculation that he might allow the seat to be filled in this year’s general election in November, thereby allowing a primary process.
