Ulrich To Run For State Senate in Forest Hills

Republican will challenge Addabbo in 15th District.

City Councilman Eric Ulrich, R-Ozone Park, announced Tuesday his intention to run for the state Senate in the 15th District, which includes Forest Hills. The seat is currently held by state Sen. Joe Addabbo Jr., a democrat.

Ulrich made the announcement on his website, www.ulrich4senate.com,on Tuesday afternoon.

“For the past three years, I have been honored to serve the people of my community at City Hall," Ulrich said in a statement. "I am now ready to take the fight to Albany where I will be an independent voice for the taxpayers of Queens County. I will be a State Senator that never stops fighting for the middle-class.”

Ulrich is currently the youngest member of the New York City Council, at 27, and has been a member of the body since his election in 2009.

His name was mentioned casually as a possible replacement for U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, before he eventually backed Bob Turner for the role.

Ulrich, much as Weiner did, is framing himself as a fighter for the middle class.

He is currently the only declared Republican for the race.
