Turner Votes With GOP on Health Care Repeal

Calls vote a statement against "bad policy and dangerous law."

In a symbolic vote on Wednesday, the House of Representatives once again passed a measure to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the package of legislation otherwise known as "ObamaCare." 

U.S. Rep. Bob Turner, R-Forest Hills, joined fellow Republicans in voting to repeal the landmark health care reform legislation, a vote that stands no chance of being taken up in the Democratically-controlled Senate.

"The only way to prevent ObamaCare from inflicting more harm on our economy is to fully repeal the current law and replace it with commonsense, consumer-based solutions that actually address the cost of healthcare," Turner said in a statement after the vote. "Imposing a tax of this magnitude on the American people will devastate our economy."

Republican leaders across the country have been hammering the act's mandate to purchase healthcare as a tax, citing Chief Justice John Robert's decision that the mandate fell within the legislature's authority to impose taxes.

Turner has been strongly against the health care law since before he was in office, pledging to work to repeal the legislation 

In a campaign e-mail, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand said Republicans needed to stop playing games with the public.

"Republicans need to stop putting their misguided ideology before the well-being of the American people," Gillibrand said.
