Turner: Scrap ObamaCare Now!

After latest debate — this time over contraception — Forest Hills' Rep. has renewed his call to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

U.S. Rep. Bob Turner, who has made no secret of his disdain for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, again urged Congress to make another push toward repeal of “ObamaCare.”

“We have to repeal this dangerous bill with hidden consequences and work on finding practical solutions that are within the bounds of the constitution,” Turner said on Monday, after a debate last week over contraception led to a likely new compromise.

Some business groups and religious leaders have problems with a portion of the bill that would require employer- and church-sponsored health plans to pay for contraceptive prescriptions.

Turner, along with several Queens- and Brooklyn-based Republican leaders, said the stipulation in the plan would trample on freedom of religion.

“The latest health care controversy is just one of the many examples of hidden provisions and unconstitutional mandates that will continue to arise from the poorly written and blatantly rushed Obamacare bill,” Turner said. “This, along with the many other issues that have been uncovered even before the bill has been fully implemented proves one thing: We must repeal Obamacare in its entirety and start over.”

Turner has repeatedly said — — that he believes the Affordable Care Act is a "jobs killer" that should be repealed.

New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, on the other hand, has said repeatedly that she is appalled that the subject is even up for debate.

“I am absolutely dumbfounded that we're still debating whether women have a right to basic health care,” Gillibrand said in a recent fundraising e-mail.
