Turner Kicks Off Campaign In Station Square

Citing government dysfunction, GOP candidate seeks to establish himself as the smart economic choice.

With supporters and members of the statewide Republican and Conservative parties looking on, , businessman and Richmond Hill resident, officially launched his campaign Monday morning in Forest Hills.

Turner, who ran for the position against Anthony Weiner in 2010 and lost, took to the steps of the Forest Hills Long Island Railroad station in front of dozens of supporters holding signs and banners.

In his five-minute remarks, Turner positioned himself as the candidate who has the tools to help Congress turn the economy around, and flashed his conservative credentials, as well.

"We have a road map how to do this, Ronald Reagan spelled it out," Turner said. "You stimulate business, you free up capital, you don't crush them with regulation."

hoping a tough economy would bring local voters into the Republican fold.

This time around, he's hoping that a nine-week campaign and a still-uncertain job market will help convince voters in the Ninth Congressional District that he's the man for the job.
