Turner: I Could Lose Northeast Queens

Redistricting map could change the politics of Congressman's reelection campaign.

U.S. Rep. Bob Turner, R-Forest Hills, said he has a sneaking suspicion that when the Congressional map is redrawn later this year, he's likely to lose the small piece of Northeast Queens that is in his district.

The Ninth District currently snakes up and east from Brooklyn and the Rockaways through Central Queens, reaching its Northeastern most point at the corner of 48th Avenue and Springfield Blvd in Bayside Hills.

But that may change, to compensate for Census results which in the last 10 years.

“I expect that with the redistricting, you’re not going to see me around here,” the Republican congressman said at a Community Board 11 meeting this week.

Turner had that if his district is to be carved up and divided amongst surrounding constituencies, that he may take on U.S. Rep. Gary Ackerman, D-Bayside, for his job representing New York's Fifth District.

and he is planning to open a satellite office in Brooklyn this year.
