Turner Gets Endorsement From Peter King

Conservative Congressman throws weight behind local businessman in Ninth District.

Republican businessman and candidate for Congress Bob Turner has picked up another endorsement, this one from his own side of the aisle.

On Sunday night, U.S. Rep. Peter King, R-Nassau County, endorsed Turner in the Ninth District special election.

King, a strongly conservative Republican who often clashed with former Rep. Anthony Weiner, said he believed Turner was the right man for the job in a district that has never had Republican representation.

"Bob Turner is a businessman who knows what it takes to create jobs," King said. "He is a staunch supporter of Israel and an independent voice for fiscal reason. He will bring to Washington common sense and a can-do business perspective.”

King joins . He is most well known nationally and throughout New York for his recent Homeland Security hearings about the radicalization of Muslim-Americans. He has also come out strongly against the placement of a mosque near the Ground Zero site, a stance he shares with Turner.

For Turner, the endorsement is another feather in his cap in an uphill campaign to win in a district where Republicans are deeply outnumbered. Turner’s campaign so far has worked hard to establish opponent David Weprin

Turner, for his part, said he was thrilled to have collected the endorsements that he’s gained so far.

“Having the support of unwavering and independent political voices like Pete King and Ed Koch means a great deal to me," Turner said. "This country needs to get its economy moving again, and that will require Democrats and Republicans working together toward solutions, not more machine politicians.”
