Sen. Shirley Huntley to Be Arrested: Report

Queens state Sen. will turn herself in Monday.

It seems there's no escaping a scandal in Albany.

Mere hours after the revelation that Brooklyn state Assemblyman Vito Lopez had been censured, state Sen. Shirley Huntley said in a press conference that she expected to be arrested this week, according to the New York Times.

Huntley, whose large district is centered in Jamaica but snakes into parts of Forest Hills, told reporters at her home over the weekend that she planned to surrender herself to authorities on Monday.

The state Senator was not forthcoming on what the charges were likely to be, though some reports indicated that the arrest could be connected with her direction of state funds to charities with which she is associated.

Parents in Forest Hills are likely to be more familiar with Huntley as a former school board president than as a legislator. She served at the head of Community School Board 28 from 1993 until 2004, when school boards were dissolved and became Community Education Councils. It was then that she choose to run for office. School District 28 serves both Jamaica and Forest Hills.
