Sanitation Department Issues 'Snow Alert'

Up to an inch of the white stuff could fall across the city, with more forecast for the weekend.

The city's "snow drought" may be coming to an end.

With the first measurable snowfall forecast Thursday night into Friday, the Department of Sanitation issued a rare—at least, for this winter season anyway —"snow alert" for the five boroughs.

The alert will begin at 6 p.m. To prepare for inclement weather, workers will conduct equipment readiness tests, load salt spreaders and install tire chains, according to DSNY.

Snow is also forecast for Saturday, with as much as 1 to 3 inches possible.
