Reyes, Ulrich in Surprise GOP Primary: Report

Forest Hills lawyer will take on City Councilman for chance to unseat Addabbo.

The Queens GOP has put their backing behind a candidate in the 15th State Senate District, and it isn't Eric Ulrich.

Juan Reyes, a Forest Hills lawyer, has secured the Queens Republican Party backing, according to the Queens Tribune, and will force a primary with the up-and-coming City Councilman.

The seat had been in Republican hands for years, most recently held by Serf Maltese.

Addabbo managed to defend

The decision by Queens GOP leaders to endorse Reyes points to a growing rift in the borough's conservative leadership, which came to light last year when Bob Turner was selected over Reyes to run in the special election for Anthony Weiner's Congressional seat.
