Queens Dems to Back Quinn for Mayor, Katz for Boro BP: Report

The party is also likely to endorse Paul Vallone in the race for Councilman Dan Halloran's seat.

The Queens Democratic Party is expected to announce today that it will back City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, D-Manhattan, in her mayoral bid and former state Assemblywoman Melinda Katz in the race for Queens Borough President, Crain’s Insider reported.

Additionally, the party is likely to pick Reshma Saujani for public advocate and throw its weight behind Paul Vallone, who is the brother of Councilman Peter Vallone Jr., in the race for Councilman Dan Halloran’s seat, according to Crain’s.

The party’s endorsement for Quinn had been expected, despite the fact that one candidate in the Democratic primary for mayor – city Comptroller John Liu – is a Queens native.

But the party’s picking Katz may come as a surprise to some. As of last week, Queens insiders had said they believed that Councilman Leroy Comrie, D-St. Albans, would get the nod in the Queens borough president race.
