Preliminary Results in Citywide and Local Races

Here's where the primary races stand following yesterday's election.

Results won't be official for a few days, but returns are almost finished in all of the citywide and local races, according to the New York Times.

The results are below:

For Mayor, Republicans have selected Joe Lhota and Democrat Bill de Blasio has just barely cracked the 40 percent number to avoid a runoff.

For City Comptroller, Scott Stringer beat out Eliot Spitzer.

In the race for Public Advocate, Fort Greene Councilwoman Tish James and Brooklyn Assemblyman Daniel Squadron will have a runoff on Oct. 1 after a very close primary.

Queens primaries are as follows:

In the Queens borough president race, Former state Assemblywoman Melinda Katz bested Councilman Peter Vallone Jr., Everly Brown and state Sen. Tony Avella.

In Queens City Council races, Paul Vallone fended off four Democratic opponents in the race for Councilman Dan Halloran's seat and former state Assemblyman Rory Lancman defeated two other Democrats in the primary for James Gennaro's seat.
