Popular in New York: Casinos and Gov. Cuomo

Majority of respondents say state is on the track in new Siena poll.

A Siena College poll released on Tuesday revealed that New Yorkers are pretty happy with the direction New York is headed.

A record high number of New York residents polled — 56 percent — said they thought the state was headed in the right direction. Only a third of respondents said the state was on the wrong track.

"A majority of voters from every demographic group says the state is on the right track with the exceptions of upstaters — where a plurality says so," said pollster Steven Greenberg.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo also polled remarkably well among respondents, with his favorability ratings breaking 71-24.

"What's boring for pollsters and the media must continue to make Governor Cuomo and his staff smile," Greenberg said. "His honeymoon with voters has lasted longer than some recent celebrity marriages.”

Also popular among New Yorkers? An amendment to allow casinos to open in the state. The issue now polls well with 52 percent of New Yorkers.
