Meng to Act as Co-Chairwoman on Kids' Safety Caucus

Congressional coalition of four U.S. Reps. would address child safety measures.

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng, D-Flushing, will act as co-chairwoman of a new congressional safety caucus for children.

The Congressional Kids Safety Cause’s bipartisan coalition includes Meng, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., Jon Runyan, R-NJ, and Kevin Cramer, R-ND.

“Nothing is more important than protecting our kids and it’s essential that we do all we can to keep them safe,” said Meng, who is the mother of two young boys. “Most deaths of children aged 19 and younger are preventable and tragedies such as accidental poisonings, drownings and car accidents are easily avoidable. Our children deserve nothing less.”

Wasserman Schultz said the number one killer of children is unintentional injury.

“We can play a leadership role in educating our constituents about child safety, whether it’s in cars, on sports fields or in swimming pools and open water.”
