Meng, Big-Time Democrat Tout Business Plan

The road to Congress is lined on both sides with small business owners. In the campaign for New York's new Sixth District, which includes Forest Hills, both candidates have begun trying to outmaneuver each other on the economy. 

The campaign of Assemblywoman Grace Meng imported House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Maryland, to help pitch a business-friendly program to voters on Tuesday.

Meng and Hoyer touted the "Make It In America" program, standing on the steps of Queens Borough Hall. The program was designed as a package of bills by Congressional Democrats to reward companies and employers who keep jobs and manufacturing infrastructure inside the United States.

"Voters in Queens, and in this district, have stressed multiple times that jobs are of the utmost concern on their minds during this election," Meng said. "It's just common sense that we should be making every effort to promote domestic manufacturing and provide tax credits to companies who insource jobs." 

Hoyer framed Meng as "somebody prepared to reach across the aisle in a bipartisan fashion to act, not simply to delay and obstruct and walk away, but to act on behalf of small, medium and large businesses."

Recently, Meng introduced a bill in the state Assembly that would require all state departments to purchase American flags made domestically.

In addition, Meng's campaign said that if elected, her business plan would include advocating for federal aid to state and local governments to spur more public sector hiring, and providing tax credits for businesses that hire new employees.
