Meng Attacked and Robbed in D.C.

Robber struck congresswoman on the head and took her purse.

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng, D-Flushing, was attacked and robbed near Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. last night.

The congresswoman said she was walking towards her D.C. apartment after having dinner at a restaurant when she was struck on the back of the head near Sixth Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Meng fell to the ground and the attacker took her handbag, fleeing on foot.

“While this was a frightening ordeal, I fortunately was not seriously injured,” Meng said. “Obviously, things could have been much worse. I thank the U.S. Capitol Police and the District of Columbia Police for responding quickly and professionally.”

Meng suffered a bruise on her chin and underwent a CAT scan at George Washington University Hospital.
