Local Pols Fight Influx Of Raccoons With Legislation

State and City law changes make it easier for residents to have critter complaints heard.

Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi, D-Forest Hills, was joined by Council members Karen Koslowitz, D-Forest Hills and Elizabeth Crowley, D-Middle Village, to discuss a pair of laws designed to help local residents combat the rising tide of raccoon sitings in the neighborhood.

The state law was changed earlier this month to ensure Department of Environmental Conservation officers respond to all raccoon complaints in the city.

Any resident who has a problem with raccoons in their home or on their property should call (718) 482-4900 to report the pests.
