Hevesi, NYPD Fight Bullying In Forest Hills Schools

New program aims to help students with conflict resolution among their peers.

One of the biggest issues facing parents and students today in New York City schools is the issue of bullying. No school is immune, and in an effort to combat the bullying the NYPD has formed a community outreach group that makes appearances in local schools.

Hevesi said that with the success of the program and P.S. 144, he plans to bring it to other schools in the district to help parents, teachers and students throughout Forest Hills.

“Bullying is a real problem, and it can’t be ignored. The New York City Police Department did an outstanding job engaging the students in a discussion about bullying,” Hevesi said. “The officers related to the students as they performed, and made them feel the emotional consequences of bullying. I am going to attempt to bring this program to schools all over my district.”
