Forest Hills Sen. Joins NYC Education Committee

Stavisky will tackle local schools as part of new subcommittee in state Senate.

Forest Hills schools will have yet another legislator fighting for them, this time in Albany.

The New York State Senate's Committee on Education has formed a new subcommittee dedicated exclusively to New York City schools, and Forest Hills legislator Toby Stavisky will be joining it.

Stavisky, who was already a member of the Senate Committee on Education, was a New York City public school teacher before her time in government.

“As a product of the New York City public school system, and as the only former teacher to serve on the committee, I will be a fierce advocate for public education. Every child is entitled to quality education and I will be their spokesperson," Stavisky said.

Forest Hills state Sen. Joe Addabbo is also a member of the Senate Committee on Education, so the neighborhood is well represented.

Acccording to Capital Tonight, the committee will be directly involved in any state-level matters that would impact city schools. 

The committee would also be of importance when mayoral control of NYC schools comes up for another vote in 2015.
