For Construction Zone, Buses Back On Track This Summer

MTA says altered bus routes in Forest Hills should be normal again by June.

While the , the Metropolitan Transit Authority said this week that those riding buses in the area will have to keep following the detours until the middle of 2011.

When construction began, four bus lines — the Q23, QM10, QM11 and Q38 were rerouted to avoid the torn up roads and temporary one-way traffic.

The Q23 northbound and the QM10 and QM11 westbound were diverted from 108th Street to 62nd Drive, Yellowstone Boulevard and Horace Harding Expressway. The Q38 southbound was diverted from its route on 63rd Road to a brief trip on 108th Street until it resumed regular service on 62nd Road.

Four bus stops were eliminated and two new ones were added to replace them, to help commuters who had been inconvenienced by the change.

At the time, the changes were posted "until further notice." Now, the MTA said, the plan is to resume normal service in June 2011, assuming all construction in the area is complete.

"The expected completion date is late June 2011," MTA spokeswoman Deirdre Parker said. "Upon completion, buses will return to normal route."

Parker did not say whether or not buses will be diverted early if construction in the area finishes before the June 2011 target date.
