Details Emerge on the State's Tax Rebate Program: Report

Those eligible for a $350 rebate check must have a child who was less than 17 years old by December 31, 2012

As the last batch of four budget bills were presented on Sunday, details finally emerge on the state's tax rebate program, reported the Times-Union.

The three-year tax rebate program is slated to start in 2014. Those eligible for the $350 rebate check must have reported between $40,000 and $300,000 in income in 2012 and have a child who was less than 17 years old by December 31, 2012.

Qualifying taxpayers can expect to receive their checks around mid-October 2014, one month before Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the state's 213 legislators run for reelection, the paper pointed out.

The last round of budget bills also revealed the exact structure of the minimum wage hike, which increases from the current $7.25 to $8 on Dec. 31 of this year, to $8.75 by the end of 2014, and finally $9 in 2015.

However, restaurant workers who rely on tips and who have a lower minimum cash wage of $5 an hour, will not automatically see increases of a similar amount.
