Delays On LIRR Out Of Jamaica

Signal system causing problems for commuters.

The Metropolitan Transit Authority is warning commuters to build in some extra time this morning for any Long Island Rail Road trips they may have to make because of signal problems at the Jamaica interchange.

An alert on the MTA's website this morning warned commuters they could be facing 20 minute delays or longer because of signal problems. The Jamaica station having difficulties is at the center of a major update, with a nearly 100-year-old signal-switching system is being replaced by a modern, computer-aided system.

The LIRR warned riders of extremely limited service last weekend because of the update, and the weekend of Nov. 6-7 will have the same issues. Train service to Forest Hills will be canceled entirely for those two weekends.
