Congressman Urges Vets To Attend Job Fair

Turner, a veteran, directs job-seeking servicemembers to event in NYC.

U.S. Rep. Bob Turner, R-Forest Hills, is urging veterans to take advantage of an upcoming New York City job fair.

America Works of New York, in conjunction with the Mayor’s office, is hosting a job fair on Jan. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mayor’s Office for Veterans’ Affairs, located at 346 Broadway, 8th floor, Manhattan.

The job fair, Turner said, is a golden opportunity for veterans who are out of work or underemployed.

“I have said it before and my position will never change, our veterans risk their lives to protect us every day, they deserve all of the assistance we can give them to make a smooth transition back into civilian life,” Turner said. “This is a wonderful event that seeks not only to provide veterans information about potential jobs, but for them to interview and get hired on the spot.”

Employers at the event will be hiring in food service, personal training, green-collar, security, maintenance and other industries.

“I will continue to support events and programs that seek to help my fellow veterans not only find jobs, but find careers.”

Turner urged vets to RSVP for the event as soon as possible by calling Carlyle Outten, Director of Veteran Programming at America Works, at 212-599-5627 ext. 133.
