Community Board 6 Moves Into New Offices

Board will make new home on Metropolitan Avenue.

It was mostly quiet on the Community Board 6 front at Wednesday night’s meeting.

The biggest news for the board is the move of headquarters from its sleepy former address on to new digs on Metropolitan Avenue.

After a move just this week, the Community Board’s new home will be 104-01 Metropolitan Avenue.

It’s a change that’s been in the offing for the board for the better part of two years, according to board Chairman Joseph Hennessy.

“It’s an exciting time for the board, the office is now handicap accessible, and for people that used to work in it, please come by and take a look,” Hennessy said. “Frank [Gulluscio] is very excited about it.”

Hennessy also said that the most onerous part of the entire moving process — aside from getting approval from the city — was the transportation of 25 years of paperwork from the board’s former Yellowstone Boulevard office.

District Manager Frank Gulluscio agreed, and thanked the board’s new landlord for her patience as the process moved slowly on. Gulluscio said that a call to City Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz, D-Forest Hills, finally hustled the process along.

“About two weeks ago I called Karen, and all of a sudden the commissioner called me up, and said that Karen had called overnight and that’s when it finally happened after three years,” he said.

Hennessy said the board would likely have an open house in January to christen the new office.

The Transportation committee also hailed a decision by the Department of Transportation to reverse the plan to eliminate left-hand turns from Woodhaven Boulevard onto Union Turnpike.

The board strenuously objected to the plan when it was proposed months ago, saying the resulting traffic would cause issues for miles down the road. The DOT ultimately reversed its decision on the advice of two separate community boards.
