Amtrak Derailment To Delay Trains Through May 11
Plan ahead on LIRR lines in the city and beyond.
in one of the East River tunnels is causing delays on LIRR trains through at least Wednesday, the MTA said in a statement Tuesday morning.
22 of 98 trains running on Tuesday were either cancelled, heavily delayed or diverted, and the issues could continue until Thursday morning.
Track workers are scrambling to repair the damage from Sunday's derailment.

"While Amtrak was able to re-rail all their train cars on Monday," an MTA official said, "there is extensive track damage that requires repair and testing before the tunnel can be restored for train service."
New York City transit will be honoring LIRR tickets for use on the subway through at least Wednesday evening, and train passengers are advised to closely monitor the trains they typically take to watch for delays.
