After Jobs Report, Turner Prods Obama On Economy

Urges president to work with Senate on jobs bill.

After reports late last week that the country's workforce only grew by 69,000 jobs last month, U.S. Rep. Bob Turmer, R-Forest Hills, pounced.

"Three and half years after the implementation of [President Barack Obama's] spend-first economic policy, the unemployment rate remains steadfastly above 8 percent," Turner said. "That number far exceeds the projections this administration promised while beginning its massive spending spree with America's credit card. The free spending must stop now."

Turner has advocated for the passage of a jobs bill since his election to Congress last year.

With the bad economic news, Turner renewed his call for the passage of a jobs bill that has already, in multiple forms, emerged from the House of Representatives.

"My colleagues and I in the House have sponsored and passed more than 30 such job creating bills that are sitting on the floor of the Senate. Simply put, his policies are not working," Turner said. "I encourage President Obama to demand his colleagues in the Senate to end their stall tactics and pass the legislation that will help put Americans back to work.”

Obama was quoted by the Associated Press on Friday as admitting that the economy "is not growing as fast as we want it to."

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney characterized the May report as "devastating news," the AP added.
