Additional Poll Workers Needed for Tuesday's Election

The NYC Board of Election is short workers due to Sandy; Trainings Sunday.

One more way to help with the post-Sandy effort:

The NYC Board of Elections is short poll workers due to Superstorm Sandy, and a polling place cannot open if the poll workers are not available.

If you are interested, the only requirements to be a poll worker are that you be a permanent U.S. resident, a New York City resident, 18 years of age, and that you complete a short training.

Poll workers will need to be at their assigned post starting at 5am on Tuesday until after the polls close at 9pm. In some locations, that could be up until 11pm.

There are trainings on Sunday, Nov. 4.

The trainings are at 9:30am, 11:30am, 1:30pm, 3:30pm, and 5:30pm. The trainings will be located at the Manhattan office for the Board of Elections at 450 West 33rd Street, 8th Floor. Contact mmaddox@dpw.com with questions or to let him know you plan to go to a training.

If you are able, you should go to the website below, fill out an application and bring it with you to one of the trainings. If not, the Board will have applications available at the trainings. The website also contains more information. http://www.vote.nyc.ny.us/html/workers/positions.shtml

Amy, where are workers needed? At this time of a gasoline shortage, it is important to know before applying and attending tomorrow's training if they are accessible to people who want to help. I didn't see any info on the website you linked to, and the voter hot line number on their site is busy busy busy. If you have a contact to call, please post additional information.

I would love to offer my help but those hours are the entire day & only have about 5 hours of energy per day. If there are half days or anything I can possibly help in Brooklyn. I do want everyone to vote & for it to be a positive experience.
