Addabbo, Miller Want To Educate You On Bedbugs

Free seminar will give Queens residents tools to fight the pests.

D-Forest Hills, and Assemblyman Mike Miller, D-Woodhaven, are gathering their constituents with pest control experts for an educational meeting on the bedbug plague in New York City next month.

“I want to thank these experts for providing timely information to my constituents — homeowners, tenants or landlords — who are afraid that the city’s bedbug plague will hit their buildings,” Addabbo said.

Ridding homes and offices of bedbugs — especially large buildings — is notoriously difficult, and Addabbo said he hopes that the information provided at the upcoming meeting will help residents make smart choices to protect themselves.

The meeting will take place in Woodhaven at Emanuel United Church of Christ, 93-12 91st Avenue. It will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17, and is free for residents of Queens.

Experts from the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, the Department of Health, and a local bedbug removal expert will be present to answer questions.

The city logged nearly 13,000 complaints about bedbugs last year, Addabbo said, and in the last two years the problem has grown exponentially.

“The citywide fight against bedbugs will be won one home at a time,” Miller said. “Winning the battle can save you thousands of dollars, and information is your best weapon.”
