UPDATE: Man Struck, Killed On Grand Central Parkway

Victim was working in left lane at Jewel Avenue in Forest Hills.

UPDATE, 5:30 p.m.: On Tuesday afternoon, police released the names of both the victim and the driver involved in the accident.

Frank Avino, of Juniper Avenue in Ronkonkoma, was identified as the victim.

Munshi Abdullah, 26, of 86th Road in Queens was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest.

A road crew worker was struck by a car and killed Tuesday morning on the Grand Central Parkway in Forest Hills, police said.

The worker, who has yet to be identified, was hit by an Audi in the left lane of the Grand Central Parkway at 11 a.m. near the Jewel Avenue exit.

Police took the driver of the vehicle, a 26-year-old man, into custody after the accident.

Emergency Medical Technicians were called and declared the victim dead at the scene.

Police did not say whether the driver was suspected of speeding during the time of the accident. It is currently under investigation by the Highway Patrol Accident Investigation Squad.
