Woman Hit By Car, Killed On Yellowstone Boulevard

Victim was struck by elderly driver while crossing the street after dark.

A 58-year-old woman was hit and killed by a car crossing the street at Yellowstone Bouelvard and 63rd Road Tuesday evening, said.

An elderly man making a left turn from 63rd Road onto Yellowstone Boulevard after the sun had set on Tuesday night apparently didn't see the neighborhood woman crossing the street.

The woman, who was not identified by police, was pronounced dead at Forest Hills Hospital shortly after the incident.

Andrea Guzman, who lives in the area, said she saw the entire accident unfold.

"I was looking and the walk sign was blinking, so as he was coming…" Guzman hit one hand with the other in an impact gesture, "and he kept going. I don't think he realized that he had somebody under his car."

Guzman said she thought the driver of the car might have been in shock or denial that he had struck a pedestrian. She said she and her family ran out of their house to get him to stop to keep the woman from being dragged underneath his Toyota.

"We had to run to his car and yell 'Hello! Stop! There's somebody under your car," Guzman said.

The victim was trapped underneath the car for several minutes after police were called. A tow unit had to respond to the scene to lift the sedan off the woman.

She was taken to immediately after she was pulled from under the car.

The driver remained at the scene with police, though he was not arrested and no criminality is suspected in the incident.
